Gubkin University faculty members and students became participants of the Russian Energy Week 2017

On October 3-7, 2017 the Energy Efficiency and Energy Development International Forum: Russian Energy Week 2017 was hosted in Moscow by the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation and the Government of Moscow. Faculty members and students of Gubkin University became participants of the event.

The goal of the Forum was to demonstrate the prospects of the Russian fuel and energy sector and realize the potential for international cooperation. The key event of the official business program of the Forum was the plenary session "Energy for Global Growth", at which the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin became a speaker. The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro Moros took part in the event as well, who spoke at the panel session "Oil and geopolitics: causes and consequences".

The 19th Ministerial Meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum was held during the Russian Energy Week 2017. At the Ministerial Meeting the ministers approved the five-year work plan for the Forum and appointed the State Secretary-Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Yuri Sentyurin as the Secretary-General of the GECF for a two-year term from January 2018.

Within the framework of the Forum, the Youth Day was also held and became the main youth event in the field of energy efficiency and energy development bringing together the best young representatives engaged in the fuel and energy issues to carry on a dialogue with representatives from industry organizations and experts.

This year Gubkin University was represented at the interactive sessions of the Youth Day by two teams of activists from the Student Scientific Society. The teams took part in the interactive sessions on design of technological forecasting for the development of the fuel and energy complex and the energy efficiency of the Russian economy, suggesting the most important trends in development of the Russian fuel and energy sector.

In addition, Gubkin University representatives were offered an opportunity to participate in the “no-tie meeting" with the Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak where the main trends of the energy efficiency and energy development in Russia were discussed. Students were able to ask questions regarding the medium- and long-term trends in the development of the fuel and energy sector in Russia.

As part of the event, Gubkin University and Rice University (Houston, Texas, USA) signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation. The Vice-Rector for International Affairs at Gubkin University Alexander Maksimenko and the Special Advisor to the Executive Director of Rice University Michael Moore participated in the signing ceremony.

More than 150 students from Gubkin University were involved in organizing and hosting the event as volunteers. The activities on recruiting volunteers and conducting interviews were supervised by the Student Scientific Society of Gubkin University.
