“Annually we have a very strong competition for admission to the University; this year it has been more than 20 applicants per place. The national rankings demonstrate that Gubkin University is one of the leaders among Russian universities according to the employer’s demand. This is mainly the result of the oil and gas industry image as well as longstanding work on establishment and development of the research and academic school of the University, which celebrated its 87th anniversary. In addition, for many years Gubkin University is the source of new knowledge in the area of academic methodologies and innovations in engineering education. Today, Gubkin University students obtain practice-oriented competencies based on the virtual environment of professional activity developed and introduced at the University. It enables to work in a team of specialists from various fields and use modern interactive full-scale simulators, computer models and systems, and real industry data. These broad opportunities make engineering education at Gubkin University unique and popular”, – noted the Executive Secretary of the Admissions Committee, Professor Viktor Pirozhkov.

In total, over 10,000 applications were received by the Admissions Office in 2017, and only 1,440 were successfully admitted to undergraduate programs and over 1,000 – to graduate programs. This time the most popular program among the applicants was Chemical Engineering, while Ecology and Natural Resource Management became the least popular.
