Congratulations on Victory Day!

76 years have passed since the end of the deadliest and most destructive war in human history – a war that has affected every family in our country. Gubkin University was not spared the Great Patriotic War, continually taking students and faculty and staff members out of their normal lives. In July 1941, 53 of them joined the people’s volunteer army and 255 faculty and staff members went to the front, 36 of them remained on the fields of war forever, and 45 were awarded the medal “For the Defense of Moscow”.

The years of the war became the most difficult periods in the life of the country and the University, posing new challenges for the team: defense of the Homeland, research work, development of new technologies for the exploration, production, processing and transportation of oil and oil products to help the front.

During the war years, about 300 engineers were trained at Moscow Oil Institute (the former name of Gubkin University). With the participation of scientists from the Institute, a number of oil and gas fields were discovered, and innovative solutions were introduced into production. The work of the faculty and staff members was highly appreciated. For successful completion of the government tasks related to training of engineering and technical personnel and on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Institute, by the Decree of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of 26 May 1945, Moscow Oil Institute received the Order of Red Banner of Labor.

On behalf of Gubkin University and on my own behalf, I congratulate everyone on Victory Day! Deepest gratitude, honor and glory to all who heroically fought for the freedom of our Homeland, overcame all the hardships and horrors of the war, to those who brought victory as close as they could – on the front and on the home front. I wish you all health, happiness, peace and prosperity!
